This beautiful antique seated emperor is carved from a single block of wood. Using a formula of gesso and saw-dust mixture, the statue is meticulously detailed with ultra fine embossed motifs, ornamental jewel chains and dragon heads. Finally an application of lacquer, layers of polychrome, human hair on the face and gold leaf makes this statue really stand out. Such elaborate design is the hallmark of the Daoist influence during the Qing dynasty - 1644-1911.
The statue shows wear and paint loss from age. Overall it is in great condition.
