Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was a pioneering Finnish designer, best known for his innovative glasswork. Trained in graphic design, he gained international acclaim through his work at Iittala, where he introduced groundbreaking glass techniques, including the steam-blown Lansetti, Kajakki, and Orkidea vessels.
His iconic i-Linja series, launched in the 1950s, became a hallmark of Finnish design and introduced the lowercase “i” logo still used by Iittala today. Sarpaneva's work in glass, including his renowned Finlandia series, earned him numerous awards, and his designs are featured in major museums worldwide. Though he also worked in ceramics, textiles, and metal, it is his glass designs that cemented his legacy as a master of modernist design.
